We are thrilled you are joining us in helping grow Columbus’s urban forest! Below are answers to some of the most common questions about registering, picking up, and caring for your free tree.
Registration & Eligibility
Who can register?
Only residents of Franklin County are eligible to register.
Where do I sign up?
You can enroll here. You will need to select one of the three giveaway locations and go to that page to access the sign-up form.
How many trees can I reserve?
Each household may reserve ONE tree. If there are extras after initial reservations, we will contact you.
Can someone else pick up my tree for me?
Yes! You may forward your confirmation email to a friend or family member, and they can pick up the tree on your behalf.
When does registration close?
Registration remains open until all trees are reserved or until Friday afternoon before the Tree Giveaway, whichever comes first. We will post updates on the website and social media if spots fill up early.
Pick-Up & Logistics
How does pick up work?
At your selected giveaway location, volunteers will guide you through the drive-through process. You will receive a marker showing which tree you selected, then drive to the loading area and a volunteer will load it into your vehicle.
What if I miss my pickup time? Can I come another day?
Unfortunately, no. We are a volunteer-run event and cannot accommodate alternate pickup days or times. Please make arrangements ahead of time if you cannot attend your slot; a friend or neighbor can pick up for you.

You will choose from three giveaway locations when you register. The address and details will be listed here and in the reminder emails.
Tree Details & Care
How big are the trees?
The trees are 4-6 feet tall and are in 3-gallon pots.
How big will the trees get?
All of our trees are large canopy trees. For specific height and width estimates, please see the individual tree fact pages here.
How do I care for a tree?

Where can I plant my tree?
Trees MUST be planted at the address listed on the reservation. Planting in parks, tree lawns, or right-of-ways is NOT permitted.

Extras & End-of-Event Details
What happens if there are leftover trees?
If we have extras near the end of the event, those who can plant additional trees are encouraged to stop by to pick up. If you are interested in additional trees, it is recommended to sign up for the final time slot of the day for your convenience.
